The Attitude of Gratitude

The scriptures states, "In all things give thanks..." Gratitude is one of the most powerful tools we have in our spiritual arsenal. Gratitude is an appreciation for all that God has done for us.

The attitude of gratitude is powerful and transforming. Gratitude can change an environment that is stressful and chaotic to a place of peace and power. Gratitude causes the individual to reflect. It is in their reflection that we focus on the things that are right and the things that are good. Think about it, what if we always looked for the good or more specifically the God in every situation?

Paul shared that our focus should be on "whatsoever things are pure, honest and of a good report..."It is when we focus on the empowered things do we see God in everything. I want to challenge you to become present to God in every situation and to practice the spirit of gratitude. This is where the blessings are attached, it is not so much God as much as it is our focus becomes more God centered.

Does gratitude move the hand of God to give the individual more? I don't think so. I do not think God is a God who will be bribed because of our recognition of all that He is and His blessings. I have heard preachers share that the best way to blessing is to demonstrate gratitude. What about being thankful and grateful, just because? Why do individuals always have to attach their own agendas to what should be natural.

My father, Joshua Lee is an Alzheimer's resident in an assistant living facility. I made my bi-weekly visit to his residence today. He was looking healthy and in a pleasant mood. I get so excited when I see him, every time I see him I go back to being a child when I would see my father after a long week. I began to mentally process what are all the things I am grateful for in my relationship with my father. I began to count my blessings.

The most profound blessing today in my visit was not the past, not that I just enjoyed our walk around the courtyard and talk about the seasons. But I was so excited that my father could recognize my face and he knew my whole name and that I am his son. I am grateful to God that I have my father.

I implore all of those who have parents, please take advantage of every opportunity to engage them and bless them. Truly we are blessed to have them, no matter what the relationship may be or had been in the past.

I challenge you to have an attitude of gratitude!
