Yesterday I assisted in the transition and the new beginnings of an individual in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She had a series of challenges in the past few years and was in the ICU as a result of a massive heart-attack. As I ministered and shared with the family, I kept thinking of the brevity of life.
This wonderful woman was a wife for over 40 years, reared two powerful daughters who are contributing in the world, she was a beloved sister and friend. One striking thing was family and friends were all gathered around her bed. They shared stories, pictures, they laughed and cried, they shared their love with her.
I have had the priviledge of being at the bed side of many who are going through their transistion to new life, and I tell you moments when family and friends are gathered sharing love and life is the most awesome experience.
Experiences, like these, remind us how the preciousness and the brevity of life. There is a quote that Anthony Hopkins character shared in the movie "Meet Joe Black". "Sixty-five years how quickly they go by..."I have a feeling that no matter how many years go by, 10 to 100 the reality is that it is fleeting in this manifestation of life and realm.
What then shall we do? We should embrace every moment that we have and make every second count. We do this by not being preoccupied with all of the demands of our careers and the obligations of life, but we do this by being alive to each moment of the day. Alive to our families, friends, our community and our obligations. Alive in the moment is that I appreciate the gift of every moment that God has given and I find the beauty of life in that moment.
This is the lesson I learned yesterday in Milwaukee and I pray that this lesson will bless you.
