There Can Be No Love Without Integrity

My friend Dr. Balin Durr shared a powerful statement with me the other day. She is always looking for empowered and creative ways of expressing herself and helping others. She called me excited and shared, "There can be no love without integrity."

This statement floored me, integrity is defined as, being your word. There can be no love if one does not keep his or her word. The Bible shares, "God is love..." However, if I cannot truly demonstrate the love of God if I am not walking in integrity. Integrity in being the individual I say that I am as a follower of the teachings and precepts of Jesus the Christ.

We musts assess our lives to see if our lives are lining up with our words.

On another level, we must be challenged in our relationships with others, If we say we love someone, does our words line up with our actions? Does the other person feel loved just because we say we love them, or do they see our lives demonstrating our love toward them? Not just in the obligatory things of a relationship or marriage but in the way you meet their needs in the way they request.

Love has to be a reciprocal in that regard. It cannot be one person always having to compromise their needs for another and hopelessly waiting for someone to recognize them and their needs. If we love someone, our actions must demonstrate our love for them in the way that meets their needs.

Think about this, when I am in love, I unselfishly give of myself to meet the needs of my partner as my partner unselfishly gives to me. That is integrity at it's best!
