A Prophet is Without Honor at Home!

We take so many things for granted. We very rarely take the time and assess how people and things impact our lives and demonstrate an appreciation for them. Jesus shared that this is typical when he stated, "a prophet is without honor at home..." The people were so use to Jesus as the Son of Joseph that they could not appreciate all that he offered and brought to their lives. Another scripture shares, "that no mighty works could be done..." How could they not understand and appreciate the powerful ministry of Jesus when he was amongst them?

I have discovered this phenomenon in many respects over the years, filling auditoriums in South Africa and India on my crusades. My ministry throughout the United States being embraced by many churches and people; only to find in my own home town that my church is the smallest place that I minister to. My blog is read by more people abroad and in other places then my own church. In my church I do not have appreciation services or anniversaries because I was tired of always organizing, "My own appreciation!"

This is not a cry for some type of sympathy. But it is a useful experience to look at how we treat the people we love in our lives. How many husbands, wives, significant others, children and a host of loved ones do we simply take for granted what they offer and bring to our lives? Do we ever say thank you for those who deposit in our lives the positive and the empowering things that bless our lives?

I have a suspicion, that there are a host of people in our lives that feel under appreciated and "without honor" in our lives.

What happens to those people we do not show or offer our appreciation? In any relationship, they simply go away, if not physically, emotionally. Maybe the people in our lives that have disappeared have done so for a reason. Perhaps the shift in the relationship has occurred for a reason. Appreciation goes a long way.

I challenge you this day, to make a list and call those people who you have not demonstrated appreciation. Matter of fact, take it one step further, why not buy a card or write a letter showing how much you appreciate the impact they make in your life. For those who belong to a church, let your minister know he /she is appreciated.
