"Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man" (Proverbs 3:3-4).
Growing up, my mother did a lot of teaching around having a "GOOD" name. She would say that "really all you have is your name. If you mess that up, you are messed up for life, because people know you by your name." What she was saying is that your name reflect the values you live by and is a representation of your character. The values we live by are very important. In our post modern world we seem so driven by possessions and security, that most often that is what we value the most in our lives and what we demonstrate that is important to others. However, the writer shares of the importance of love and faithfulness as necessary values in the life of the believer.
Love is the unifying force of all of life, it is that which creates harmony, unity and oneness. The Allness of Love and the essence of Love is God. The scriptures share, "God is love..." Jesus shared the most important commandments are, LOVE the Lord thy God with all of thine heart and strength...and LOVE thy neighbor as thyself." Moreover, He shared that we will be known, "By the LOVE we have for one another..." Wisdom speaks that we must reflect the love of the Father. We must manifest God and demonstrate the character of harmony, unity and oneness.
Faithfulness is being totally committed without wavering. We are called to be faithful in every area of our lives, not just in the demonstration of our relationship with the Father. The relationship with the Father should be a reference and a reflection of how we live the totality of our lives. If I am not faithful in my relationship with the Father, I will not be faithful in other areas of my life. Faithfulness must be a necessary part of the character of the believer.
The writer of Proverbs suggest that Love and Faithfulness are key values that we must embrace fully. "bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart..." Wouldn't it be powerful to be known as the person who is a demonstration of love and faithfulness? Wouldn't it be powerful to be a manifestation of God in action demonstrating the character traits of love and faithfulness? It is reflecting these traits that the individual is respected and develops a GOOD NAME and has the FAVOR of God.
Reflect of these things today.
