"Give instruction to a wise man and he will be still wiser, teach a righteous man and he will increase his learning" (Proverbs 9:9) (NAS).
Recently I was with an individual who shared with me the reason why he did not go to church, " I know all of the concepts." He shared with me how he studied and all of the authors that he has read, and felt that there was nothing really left to learn. I did not argue the point, "Do not reprove a scoffer, or he will hate you..." It does raise a point though, is there a time and place where there is nothing else to learn about Christianity and empowered living? Do we reach a threshold and there is nothing else?
I believe that Christianity is a life long process of growth and evolution, there is always something to learn and to reaffirm that which we know. The writer of Proverbs suggest that the wise and the righteous are seekers of wisdom and instruction, that they are actively pursuing and do not look at it as a pinnacle or destination. I think that is the tragedy of our education system, we think that a degree is the end of the journey. Our degrees are only the beginning to even more knowledge and wisdom.
Going back to the individual who shared they know the concepts, why is it those who know all of the concepts are not living any more empowering lives than the next guy who doesn't? It seems to me, that if I know the concepts that the quality of my life would be dramatically different. I have been in ministry for 27 years and a pastor for 21 years and I can tell you, I am humbled every time that I pick up the scriptures. Even when I think I know something as I continue in my study, I realize that I have not even scratched the service. I approach my faith and Christianity with an enormous humility, it is in humility I can grow even more so.

Father, I admit I do not know.
I am growing and I am expanding in my
faith and knowledge of you.
I am open to hear your voice.
I am open to instruction.
I am open to learn.
In the Name of Jesus and Through His Power!
Amen! And So It Is!
