Day 17-Love Covers All!

"Hatred stirs up strife, but love covers all transgressions" (Proverbs 10:12). (NAS)

The central message of Christianity is love. Jesus shared that the two most important commandments are that "we love the Lord our God with all of our heart, mind and strength and love our neighbor as our selves". He stated to his disciples that we will be known, "by our love..." The Apostle John rendered, "God is love". As a Christian we are to manifest the love of the Father. It is our job to walk in love.

Love as I have previously defined is the universal and the spiritual principle of harmony and unity; it is of oneness. When we say that we love someone or something it is our standing with that person or object of our love in harmony, unity and oneness. Love calls us to understand our relationship with others, that we are not disconnected and "diverse" but we are connected and "one".

Hate has no place in the life of the believer, it is the anti-thesis of love. Hate is such a vial and heinous trait, that permeates a person's soul as a cancerous disease. Hatred is always about seeing others different and separate from one's self.

The writer of Proverbs is clear, that hate causes breakdowns and fractures... hate stirs up anger, resentments, and it perpetuates the image of our separateness that continues the strife. This has to be a horrendous experience for those who hate.
Love on the other hand is about "oneness", unity and harmony with others even in the event of breakdowns, love covers the breakdown and the transgression.

So many people who claim to love when a person falters or fails, their love becomes conditional and they hold the person's fault against them. This is not love. Or others will lead the attack on a person who they claim to love or hold vendettas, etc... This is not love. Love covers the transgression.

The Apostle Paul shared with the church at Corinth, "love...bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things." I believe in a real sense it is not that the individuals do not deal with the issues of breakdown, hurt, etc...it is that they "nip it in the bud", dealing with their issues and not allowing those issues to take a life and control them and destroy the relationship and each other. When I understand that I am ONE with the individual who I love and have a breakdown with I realize that love calls me to cover that individual.
