"Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint..." (Proverbs 29:18) (NIV)
"Where there is no vision, the people perish..." (Proverbs 29:18) (KJV)
We have to have a vision for our lives that goes beyond the mediocre and the mundaneness of life. We are made and created in the likeness and in the image of God, His Holy Spirit dwells within us; our lives are to be purposeful. Our lives matter in a major way!
Jesus spoke of the importance of our lives and letting our lights shine. "You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot he hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven" (Gospel of Matthew 5:14-16). Our lights cannot shine without a clear vision for our lives. We are charged to develop our talents, gifts and abilities to the fullest so that men and women will see the Glory of God within our lives.
What is your vision for your life? It has to be beyond the everyday grind and experiences of your neighborhood. A vision is always beyond our grasp and causes us to stretch and expand to achieve it. Life is always about a vision for your life.
Our vision is our witness. That is why the vision cannot be something mundane. People need to see a powerful manifestation of God, and when we move beyond our comfort zones, fears and all of our baggage, we display for the world the power of Christ operating in us and through us, even as us.
I just want to encourage you in your pursuits to keep expanding and growing. The challenges that an engaged life brings may be disheartening and require great sacrifice, but we have to remember it is not about us--it is about giving God the glory in our lives.
Don't be afraid to dream and to accomplish them. When you finish with your current vision, there will always be more rivers to cross, and bridges to build. Keep dreaming and expanding!
