"Next to him, Baruch son of Zabai zealously repaired another section, from the angle to the entrance of the house of Eliashib the High Priest"(Nehemiah 3:20).
Attitude is everything! One's attitude determines the outcome. If one is enthusiastic about the project, it will be reflected in a successful outcome. We live in an age where there is a great deal of fear, and trepidation. It appears no one is psyched, jazzed and juiced about anything. Therefore, there is a malaise in the approach of one's vocation, as well as ad vocation. No one seems to be enthusiastic about much.
Baruch had already repaired a section of the wall, but he went another step further and began to rebuild another section. But notice in the text that he did not just do it, he "zealously" repaired the section. This tells us a lot about who Baruch was as an individual and the process of rebuilding the walls. No doubt there were those who were participating in the process that were not as enthused as Baruch. They realized the need, and they were obligated and they fulfilled a responsibility. Those individuals are to be commended, but isn't powerful when it can be stated that he was "zealous". He brought with him to the project an attitude and an energy of enthusiasm.
The Greek origins of the word enthusiasm is to be God inspired. When one operates from an attitude of enthusiasm they are operating from the perspective of being inspired by God! What do you think the outcome of any project will be with enthusiasm?
Why was Baruch so zealous? Baruch was inspired because 1) had an empowered understanding of God; 2) he understand the importance and the value of rebuilding the walls and establishing the gates; and 3) He understood his purpose in the equation of rebuilding the walls. Think about it, to know God, to understand the value of the walls and to know your purpose is inspiration to move you beyond the mediocre and the mundane of life to do great things in a great way!
