"The King said to me, what do you want?" (Nehemiah 2:4).
Most people do not know what they want. More specifically, if there is a problem they do not know how to find the solution.
Nehemiah had fasted and prayed about the destruction of Jerusalem. It suggest that his prayers were not just laments of how bad the situation was, but it was a seeking of the will of God for his life. How could he respond to the crisis.
Nehemiah was placed in a strategic position, not to secure his future, but to secure the future of his people and to bless his beloved city. Can it be that we have been Divinely appointed to the places and stations within our lives?
When Nehemiah was asked, "what do you want?" He paused for prayer before he answered. This was not an audible prayer, but it was a conscious connecting and reaffirming of his relationship of oneness with the Father. It was Nehemiah getting into the flow of the Holy Spirit before he uttered a word. Our egos can mislead us.
This is precisely the point that Nehemiah brings out, he wanted to be very clear that his response to the question was not just out of his ego, but definitely the Divine plan of God.
Are we surrendering our wills and ego to the Father? There can be no solution to the problem if we are trying to do things within our own power and might. Observation affirms that when we rely upon our own understanding, we continue to get the same old results to many of the challenges of life. It would appear that we are on nothing more than a merry go round, doing a version of the same thing over and over again, looking for a different result, but getting the same old thing.
Nehemiah was very clear on what he wanted. He knew that he did not want to be a part of the problem, but he wanted to the solution. One does not intercede for another without making it a priority to be the solution to the problem. We must also be clear of knowing that we want change in our lives and in the lives of others. We too know that it is beyond a campaign slogan, or a clever clique, but it takes us interceding and knowing clearly that we want to be the agent of change. It is making ourselves available to God to be an instrument of his love and his truth.
Friends, we can make the difference in this world when we realize when we understand our power and we are clear on what we want.

Father, may we not just lament about problems;
May we seek to be the solution to the problems.
In the Name of Jesus! And Through His Power!
Amen! And So It Is!
