Fifty-Two Days!

"So the wall was completed on the twenty-fifth of Elul, in fifty-two days" (Nehemiah 6:15).

Nehemiah and the people of Jerusalem completed the rebuilding, restoring and renewal of the walls of Jerusalem in fifty-two days. I have never been to Jerusalem, but I do know that it is a large city. This was nothing short than miraculous. But it also demonstrates and shows that when people work together, a massive and monumental task does not take long.

The challenge that we have to rebuild, restore and renew our lives and communities is not a long-term project. We limit God because we do not think that things can happen in a expedient time. Remember, Nehemiah and most of the children of Israel did not have specialized knowledge or skills in the area of rebuilding the walls; but what they brought to the table was a willingness and faith. When we are willing and have faith we can bring real and lasting change to whatever the situation in an expedient fashion.

What about the walls of your life and your community? Have you made it a long-term project? Have we gotten comfortable in our situation and circumstances and simply developed the philosophy of, "some day or one day"? If our lives matter to God, if our lives count in the blessings of others, God has a vested interest in us being able to rebuild, restore and renew our lives so that we can bless others. The longer that we linger in our present positions, it hinders the work of the Lord.

Our lives can be totally transformed in a "New York minute." (That is a colloquialism that means very rapidly.) Moreover, our communities can be transformed in a very short period of time if we are willing and have the faith to go to work.

What are you needing to be restored in your life? What do you want to see restored in your family and community life? Take a stand to see change and be an agent of rebuilding, restoring and renewing.
