Intergrity and Personal Leadership

"I put in charge my brother Hanani, along with Hanananiah the commander of the citadel, because he was a man of integrity and feared God more than most men do" (Nehemiah 7:2).

Nehemiah then began to the job of leading the people through the period of renewal and restoration. He had to build the infrastructure with individuals around him who were committed, faithful and would lead for all of the right reasons. It is no secret that many lead for a variety of reasons, but it must always be for reason to serve God's people. Nehemiah selected men who would serve for the right reasons.

Hanania was selected not just he was Nehemiah's brother, but because Nehemiah knew his heart and devotion. He knew that he loved God and would serve the people of God. Hananiah, the commander was selected because of his integrity and the way he honored God. What does this say about us and our leadership? Where is my heart? Is my devotion and allegiance to God? Is my life a life of integrity? Nehemiah demonstrates to us what real leadership is.

Some will say that is wonderful, but I am not a leader. I dare suggest that everyone is a leader. We are ultimately leaders of our lives. If one does not rule over the affairs of his own house (his life) well, he can never lead beyond that level. We are all leaders be it of our own lives, or our families or the circles of influence that we are in. Nehemiah's standard applies to us all!

To get to the next stage of blessing in our lives, it will take a certain devotion to God and integrity in our walk with God. Throughout the Bible, we are called to honor the Word of God and to obey the Law and the commands, in so doing we will be blessed beyond measure. Obedience to the Word of Lord and a deeper devotion is what God is calling for.
