Placing God at the Center

"So on the first day of the seventh month Ezra the priest brought the Law before the assembly, which was made up of men and women and all that were able to understand. He read it aloud from daybreak till noon as he faced the square before the Water Gate in the presence of the men and women and the others who could understand. And all the people listened attentively to the Book of the Law" (Nehemiah 8:2-3).

After the wall had been rebuilt, the Children of Israel sought to restore their spiritual relationship with the Father. They began to focus on the Law and placing the Word of God at the forefront of their lives. Prior to this time, Jerusalem had been laid to waste and the rituals and the ceremonies had all fallen by the way side. Most the people had been exiled and they forget the practices of God and what His word required of them. They knew if they were going to have success in their lives as they rebuilt the walls they had to place God first in their lives.

Can you believe that they were so hungry for the Word of the Lord that they stood up and attentively listened to the reading of the scriptures from sun up to noon each day? If we are going to rebuild, restore and renew our lives, we must also develop a hunger and a thirst for His Word. Just as with the Children of Israel's desire to have the Word and to live it, we must desire that our lives align with His Word as well.

In short, God seeks to be at the center of our lives, we can never have the peace, fulfillment nor the success that we seek until God is placed firmly at the center of our lives.
