"Now the city was large and spacious, but there were few people in it, and the houses had not yet been rebuilt" (Nehemiah 7:4).
The giving of oneself to a God-given mission or idea is the greatest thing one can do. There is no greater sacrifice as when an individual invest all their resources for the sake of others and the Kingdom of God. This was the mind-set of the Children of Israel.
Can you imagine, they invested resources that could have ensured their personal safety and comfort for the sake of the community. Wow, imagine having to live with friends or family while sacrificing the resources you saved for your own family. This was sacrifice.
We live in a day where it seems there is no sacrifice for the sake of others or the kingdom of God. We give from the context of our own comfort and self-interest. When we operate from this perspective when hinder the Kingdom of God and we limit the blessings of God in our own lives.
We are inseparably connected to one another. In short, in my giving for the sake of others I bless my life indirectly. Paul shared, "whatever a man sows that shall he also reap". In my sowing in the lives of others, I sow into my own life.
The Children of Israel knew if they wanted security, safety, prosperity and protection, all that the wall represented, they had to help rebuild it for City, but also for themselves.
Let us sow into the lives of others.
