"Ezra opened the book. All the people could see him because he was standing above them; and as he opened it, the people all stood up. Ezra praised the Lord, the great God; and all the people lifted their hands and responded, Amen! Amen! Then they bowed down and worshiped the Lord with their faces to the ground" (Nehemiah 8:5-6).
What is our response to the Word of the Lord? As the Children of Israel returned from their exile, they rebuilt the walls and now they were restoring their relationship and worship of the Father. Their response to the Word was of worship.
We live in an age where the Word of God is not honored. The Children of Israel had been in exile for over a century, many of their families had forgotten about rituals and the ceremonies of God, but when the Word was read it humbled their hearts and drove them to worship. Worship is defined as WORTH-SHIP! How much does God mean to you? The Children of Israel when the word was read and Ezra praised the Lord were moved to express their gratitude and thanksgiving for preserving them and keeping his covenant. The Word of God moved them to more than just a humble moment of gratitude but to develop a greater commitment to the Father.
What does our worship look like? Does our worship move us to greater service or is it just a moment? If God is truly our redeemer and the great God, his worth to us is demonstrated in a life that is committed to him. We will see in the 9th Chapter where there response was in repentance.
Let our worship be more than a Sunday morning event, but in a lifestyle that is committed to the things of the Father.
