Child-Like Faith (Error on Date-September 19, 2008)

"Jesus said, 'Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the Kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these"(Gospel of Matthew 19:14).

Our children are important. Jesus demonstrates in this text that Children are vital to his ministry. Over the years I have struggled with individuals who have seen Children's and Youth Ministry as simply a baby sitter service. I have dedicated people struggle with limited staff and resources to impress upon our Children the things of God.

Jesus made our children a priority. He likened that our faith must be in the same sense as that of a child. Children have complete trusting in the person or object of their love. Children love unconditionally! We must emulate that kind of love and faith for the Father.

But this notion of priority is important beyond just church and ministry. Children must be first in our homes as we give them the lessons of the Word of God that they may grow in the things of the Lord. Simply working to bring home a check and provision is not making a child a priority, but it is ensuring that they are growing spiritually.

Parents are the first teachers of their children. It is not the school to teach them academic principles, it is for the parent to teach and the school to affirm. It is not for the Church to teach them about God, it is to affirm what is being taught in the household. When children are a priority payer is not obligatory before a meal, or reading of scripture is not just for show, it is when it is a part of our everyday lives. Children learn from their parents.

Let's make our children a priority in ministry as well as learning from their faith.
