"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal" (Gospel of Matthew 6:19-20).
What is most important to you? Financial stability and finances for many are so important, and rightfully so; but does my need for financial stability and finances become an obsession? Many who preach and teach the message of prosperity and abundance seems to place so much focus on the need, instead of the emphasizing our Source and Supply which is God.
Unbalanced teaching of prosperity and abundance can lead to a preoccupation with money and the things of God are placed on the back burner. We got caught up with over time, the demands of the career, a bigger house, new car, vacations, etc... and we neglect the things of God.
Let me be clear, God wants us to be blessed financially. I preach and teach the message of prosperity and abundance. But God's message of prosperity and abundance is not about materialism and conspicuous consumption for the sake of feeling good about who we are. God wants to bless us that we may be a blessing to others and make a difference in the world.
The focus must be on our purpose and assignment in life. What does God want you to do for the kingdom? When we began to focus on this and get into the Word of God and spend intimate time in prayer, we begin to make investments in our Heavenly Investment Portfolio. This portfolio has lasting impact and is the essence of our purpose.
How much time are you investing in the things of God? I want to encourage you to evaluate your spiritual portfolio.
