Offended and Missed Blessings

"And they took offense at him. But Jesus said to them, 'Only in his hometown and in his own house is a prophet without honor' And he did not do many miracles there because of their lack of faith" (Gospel of Matthew 13:57-58).

When we get offended we miss the blessings of God for our lives. So many people get upset because of others actions, and many times they may be even justified in their response, however, we cannot get to the point where we are offended and allow the offense to cause a break down in our connection with the father.

Offense or to offended in the Greek origins of the word means "stumbling block". Think about it, when we are offended a stumbling block is created. It may not be a stumbling block for the person who offended you, but it is always a stumbling block for the one who holds the offense.

Jesus was being himself, he was doing what the Messiah came to do, heal the sick, preach and teach the good news. His embracing of his mission caused others to get offended. Let me be clear, some people will always be upset when you begin to walk in the fullness of who you are. This is what happened with Jesus, he exceeded their expectations of who Jesus was. They became offended. Now this offense was a hindrances not for Jesus, but for them.

Jesus could not perform many miracles because of their lack of faith. Can you imagine missing the blessing of the Messiah because of their petty offense--being upset about Jesus being who he is. The whole gist of this narrative centers on the missing of blessing because of offense. Don't let your emotions, feeling and pettiness miss what God has for you.
