"Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed" (Proverbs 16:3).
Salvation bears a major responsibility, that our redemption is not about our the fulfillment of our personal desires but the goals of God. The Apostle Paul shared that "our lives are not our own", that life is not about our own pursuits, but at best we are vessels and manifestations of the Father.
There is a distinction, Jesus shared, "let you works so shine before men that they may see your good works, and glorify the Father..." The Father takes a great joy in our development of ourselves and when we achieve things which are for his glory. But the development and accomplishment cannot be ego-driven. Ego driven is when our accomplishments are to fulfill some need or insecurity within. Success that comes from ego-driven pursuit is success that is hollow and unfulfilled.
What does success mean to you? Is it about more money in the bank? A bigger car? Status? Prestige? Recognition? Validation? Revenge?
The writer of Proverbs shares, "commit to the Lord, whatever you do..." The idea of commitment is "wholly giving of yourself to God." Try that on for size! Wholly giving of myself to God is that all that I am is surrendered to the Father without compromise. The writer of the Proverbs is clear that the formula of plans succeeding is in the "committing to the Lord whatever you do..." There is no question that our plans will succeed when we commit to the Lord.
Our success must never be about conspicuous consumption, gross materialism and some internal need to be fulfilled, it must be to glorify the Father.
